Walmart Chair Rob Walton must step down

Walmart Chair Rob Walton must step down

I urge you to respect the wishes of your workers by replacing Rob Walton with an independent board chair.

Why is this important?

While I struggle to keep our lights on and our rent paid, one family has made a killing off of Walmart. If any of us dare to speak up about this, Walmart responds by retaliating against us. That’s why I’m joining other moms and families from across the country and going on strike.

Sam Walton’s heirs have become the 1 percent of the 1 percent by using Walmart as a family ATM. They’re worth over $144 billion, and they rake in billions more each year. And whether you’re a Walmart worker like me making less in a year than the Waltons make in a minute, a taxpayer forking over big subsidies and tax breaks, or an ordinary investor in Walmart, that wealth is coming at our expense.

But as long as the Waltons control the company’s board, they can silence anyone who doesn’t think Walmart’s first responsibility is to make them richer. It’s time for real accountability at Walmart – it’s time for an independent chair of the company’s board.

When Walmart holds its annual shareholders’ meeting on Friday, June 6, worker-shareholders like me will be proposing a measure to replace Rob Walton. Other striking moms and I will visit Rob’s house to call for an end to retaliation and push for his resignation.

We’ll be taking a big risk in directly challenging our boss, so we need to show the Walton family that the community is standing with us. Add your voice to say it’s time for the Waltons to act responsibly and time for an independent board chair.

Join me and speak out for change at Walmart: Tell Rob Walton to resign as chair of the board.
