To: The Governor of New York and the NYS Legislature

Make New York state a No Drone Zone

Make New York state a No Drone Zone

We urge the Governor of New York State and the New York State Legislature to adopt for the entire State of New York the resolution overwhelmingly passed by the Town of Woodstock NY entitled "Desire for the Town of Woodstock to Be a 'No Drone Zone,' " ( Attachment B) and thus to extend to the entire state, the benefits currently enjoyed by the Town of Woodstock.

Why is this important?

The rapid development of drone technology poses actual and potential threats to human and Constitutional rights, including the rights to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, safety, & privacy. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been directed to open up airspace to government and private drones by 2015, and the US government plans to use drones in local police depts. as part of the increasing militarization of US police including to monitor and intimidate citizens engaging in public protest and other rights of free speech. This resolution does not apply to hobbyists that fly remote controlled aircraft that do not harm or engage in surveillance of, people.
