Demand Immigration Reform Hearings Start Now

Since immigration policies (1) impact the job market of today and tomorrow by not limiting green cards for high tech and higher paying jobs (e.g. Silicon Valley engineers laid off to make way for cheaper Asian labor brought in on hastily issued green cards) & work teams that do the work of American tradesmen (e.g. the Chinese welding repairs on the San Francisco Bay's East Bay Bridge ushered in by Arnold Swartzenegger, which by the way were in many respects defective), (2) are tied often into government tolerated weak or non- enforcement of existing immigration laws that lead to American workers being bypassed, (3) lead to government deals which allow foreign nationals to come in and work under special visas if certain levels of investment dollars are committed to be spent on US soil, (4) cause Government encouraged (by tax breaks) outsourcing (by American firms) to Central American nations that foster an economic environment of instability and fear causing the Central American families to tell their children to flee & (5) suppress wage growth, we need to address how to best protect the American work force and security issues now. It should not wait until after the election this November. Americans want policy that addresses economic impacts to them, their families and communities. Open hearings NOW on immigration reform and shorten the month off vacation of House members. The House leadership only scheduled 95 days of session this year, so this is hardly a burden.

Why is this important?

The efficacy of any job training, student loan or infrastructure investment program can't be assessed and the future planned without dealing with immigration reform now. We need to create an environment so that our youth who train and get the higher education will have a job to go to.
