Place a moratorium on fracking in Colorado on all public lands and near schools until a study has been done that confirms that our communities will be protected from exposure to harmful toxins, chemical bi-products, pollutants and contamination of water supplies.
Why is this important?
We want Governor Hickenlooper and the Colorado State Legislature to tell us how the industry of fracking will make Colorado a better place to live, taking into account its impacts on the economy, the natural world, wilderness, tourism, living standards, water supply, our health and general quality of life.
We want to know what measures the government is taking to protect our futures and how this industry is helping us move toward sustainable energy resources.
We believe that the practice of fracking is too risky and it doesn't justify the few benefits.
We have water shortages here in Colorado. We can't afford to use precious water in fracking and we can't afford to contaminate the water we have.
We have alternative resources here in Colorado. We don't have to destroy our health and our environment to produce energy.
The question is not whether natural gas is better than coal, but whether it is better than wind and sun!
